Children can have speech problems or their language may be behind those when you compare it with their peers. If you suspect that your child has communication difficulties, it is imperative to take them for a thorough speech and language assessment. A developmenta specialist like a paediatrician or speech-language therapist can help with -
- stuttering and stammering
- those who speak to fast or slow
- unclear speech – communication problems due to neurological damage eg. stroke, head injury etc.
- voice problems
- not being able to understand what’s been said to you
- those struggling with reading and writing
Arina Coetzee is a registered speech therapist who graduated at Stellenbosch University. She helps both children and adults with speech and language difficulties.

Each patient at the Lynnmed Clinic is assessed by the treating physician on admission and the necessary therapists will be involved in the treatment plan. They believe in adapting a multi-disciplinary team approach when working with a patient.
Speech-Language Therapy:
Speech-language therapists assess speech and language development and treat speech and language, as well as swallowing disorders. Their therapists are also educated to assess and treat children with delayed or deviant language development, stuttering, articulation problems and auditory processing difficulties.
In patients who have had a stroke or head injury for instance, the speech-language therapist will help determine the nature of the person’s language, speech and swallowing impairment and assist with therapy for improvement.
If you are battling with speech difficulties, there are caring professionals who can help.
Contact their Speech and Language Therapist, Dr Karin Theron.
